Summer Time Eating Strategies

The hot days of summer can really have an effect on hunger patterns. Heat naturally suppresses your appetite - so go with the flow. Here are a few ways to eat healthier this summer.

1. Think Of Water As Your Best Friend. During the summer time, your body uses more water to maintain its normal temperature. Drink water all day long. And here's another reason to keep well hydrated. According to the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, many women suffer from chronic mild dehydration in the summer, which can result in diminished mental and physical performance and even an increased risk of certain cancers.
2. Keep Meal Preparation Simple. Hunger often strikes later in the evening, when the temperature drops. The last thing you need late in the evening is a heavy meal. Be prepared with simple snacks. Reserve the heavier meal for lunchtime.
3. Fill Up On Fiber. One of the best ways to lose weight without feeling deprived is to eat lots of fiber-rich fruits and vegetables.
4. Use The Heat In Your Favor. Heat suppresses your appetite. Forget about three major meals. Try grazing instead. Eat five or six little meals throughout the day, which will keep the furnace of your metabolism burning.
